When any Grand Lodge is formed one of its first tasks is to establish a set of rules by which to conduct its business. The Grand Lodge of New Brunswick is no exception.

On Thursday, October 10, 1867, at the inaugural session of the Grand Lodge of New Brunswick it was  "unanimously resolved, That the Constitutions of the Grand Lodge of England be, for the present adopted as the Constitution of the Grand Lodge of New Brunswick, so far as the same may be found applicable to the existing circumstances, except nevertheless, that the following officers shall be elected by Grand Lodge, viz:- Grand Master, Deputy Grand Master, Grand Wardens, Grand Chaplain, Grand Treasurer and Grand Tyler; the remaining officers to be appointed by the M.W. Grand Master"

Although subsequent sessions, and down through the next 140 years or so, changes were made, amendments introduced and so forth, the document both in format and content remained basically the same as it was at inception. The result became a hodge-podge of unconnected parts. No section numbers, only page and paragraph number served as an index (which in reality began as a Table of Contents). Even paragraphs contained unrelated subjects. Finally the Grand Master of the day gave directions to clean it up.

Five years or so later, the finished product is now ready for distribution. Other than amendments adopted during the period of reconstruction, the contents were not touched other than to group together sections by subject, as well as dividing the Regulations from the Constitution itself into separate sections. In some instances, minor editing occurred where necessary.

Gone are the days of hard copy in bound form. We are now in the digital age. There may be a limited number of printed copies through the Grand Secretary, but for the most part anyone who wants a hard copy can print from the copies provided through the links below.

The online version has two sizes: regular 8.5 x 11 format and 5.5 x 8.5 in PDF format. Both copies have an index at the back and while the larger version has a Table of Contents at the front, the smaller version does not. In either case, an index or ToC is redundant on the computer because the search function may be used. It should be noted that the original is on disk at the Grand Secretary's office which serves as the model by which to measure accuracy of content.

Upon request, a number of copies can be made available on CD.

We are delighted to be able to link you to the latest version of the Constitutions and Regulations of the Grand Lodge of New Brunswick, as well as the current version of the Officer's Manual.
